SkillsLink

How it works

A small, inspectable format for document links.

SkillsLink packs a validated Markdown document into a compact versioned envelope, uses zlib when it produces fewer bytes, encodes it as Base64URL, and places it in the viewer URL.

Versioned payload

The URL carries the Markdown name and content without redundant media metadata. A version prefix keeps older links readable while the current format selects compressed or raw bytes for the shorter result.

Static snapshots

Documents added to the repository are exported as content-complete HTML and exact .md files during the GitHub Pages build.

Local ownership

The CLI registry lives in the operating system user-data directory or at a JSON path selected with configuration or an option.

What SkillsLink verifies

The codec validates the extension, media type, UTF-8 text, name, version, and 64 KiB limit. Repository builds also verify and render every stored snapshot.

What a website cannot guarantee

The portable viewer needs JavaScript to decode its URL fragment. An AI service may disable JavaScript, block GitHub Pages, or reject long URLs. For dependable plain HTTP reading, use a committed static document or its raw route.

Open to new languages

Translation dictionaries live in the repository under a strict shared TypeScript contract. A contributor can add and review a language alongside the source.
